Based in the Ryburn Valley, I offer in-school dyslexia assessments throughout Calderdale and Kirklees.
Does your child need a dyslexia assessment?
If your child is bright, curious and working hard but continues to struggle with reading, spelling or writing, you may be wondering whether dyslexia could be part of the picture.
Many parents reach a point where they know that something isn't quite right, but aren't sure what to do next.
A dyslexia assessment can provide a clearer understanding of your child's strengths and difficulties and help identify the support that may make a difference at home and at school.
At Ryburn Dyslexia, the assessment process is child-centred, supportive and designed to make sure your child feels comfortable throughout.
Dyslexia assessments for children aged 8–16
I provide dyslexia assessments for children aged 8–16 who are experiencing ongoing difficulties with literacy despite support and intervention.
Assessments are carried out in school wherever possible, allowing your child to remain within a familiar environment and maintain their usual school routine.
The assessment process is flexible and tailored to the individual child. I take time to gather information from parents, the child and school before deciding which assessments are appropriate.
Why choose Ryburn Dyslexia?
I'm Sarah Read, a dyslexia specialist with a background in primary education and Special Educational Needs. I worked as a classroom teacher and SENCo for many years before specialising in literacy difficulties and dyslexia.
I hold a Post Graduate Certificate in Literacy Difficulties and Dyslexia (AMBDA), an Assessment Practising Certificate, and I am a member of the British Dyslexia Association.
As a parent of dyslexic children myself, I understand that seeking an assessment can feel like a big step. My aim is to make the process supportive, clear and focused on helping your child understand how they learn best.
If you're unsure whether an assessment is the right next step, I'm happy to have an informal conversation with you about your concerns and explain how the process works.
